Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer, S.C. (“MWL”) is pleased to announce that Mingmei Zhu has joined our insurance litigation team as an associate attorney in our Wisconsin office. Mingmei is licensed to practice in California. She is from Changsha, China, a “small” town of 7.5 million people in central China’s Hunan province. Mingmei is fluent in Mandarin and brings her skills and experience to bear on MWL’s insurance litigation and product liability cases against foreign manufacturers.
Mingmei received her Bachelor of Laws (B.L.) degree from Central South University in Changsha, China, a degree not available in the United States. It’s available in China because China uses the civil law system as opposed to English Common Law. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California Gould School of Law where received her Juris Doctor. Her experience includes working for a law firm in China, as well as the Yuelu District Court of Changsha City. She has clerked in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and served as a judicial extern to the California Court of Appeals, Second District, in Los Angeles.
Mingmei will focus her unique experience and talent on insurance litigation, especially nationwide insurance litigation involving product liability involving foreign manufacturers and health insurance subrogation across the country. She looks forward to joining the roster of attorneys presenting insurance TX CE-approved webinars to thousands of clients and friends of MWL. Mingmei will bring her unique experience to bear on a growing need in subrogation matters handled throughout North America but remains humble about the never-ending process of learning and growth. She is particularly excited about being a member of the MWL litigation team. “In China, there is a saying,” Mingmei will tell you. “众人拾柴火焰高. It means, ‘When everybody adds fuel, the flames rise higher’.”
Mingmei is very fond of traveling, and despite her short tenure in the U.S., has already traveled extensively throughout the country. She is good at cooking Asian cuisine and enjoys exploring good restaurants. When she is not litigating or recovering money for her subrogation clients, she enjoys reading detective and mystery novels, watching movies, listening to music, hiking, and cycling.
“I enjoy a challenge,” Mingmei says. Coming from China to Los Angeles to the frozen tundra of Wisconsin, she has experienced a great deal of change, but considers it all a challenge. On behalf of the partners, associates, legal assistants, and support staff here at MWL, we would like to welcome Mingmei to Wisconsin, and to our firm. We would invite our clients and friends to introduce themselves to Mingmei. She can be reached at mzhu@mwl-law.com.
