Biography

Nicholas J. DeStefanis is a trial lawyer, litigator, and Partner in our Hartford, Wisconsin office. Raised in southeast Wisconsin, he enlisted in the United States Army after high school and served in one of our nation’s most illustrious military units, the 1st Cavalry Division, and received several awards and commendations during his service time, including during training operations related to peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Sarajevo.

After and during his military service, Nicholas received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with honors. Then, he went on and earned an advanced legal degree, an LL.M., in a program only open to attorneys, at the University of Florida in Gainesville. This degree is essentially equivalent to a doctoral degree, or Ph.D., in law.

During his career, Nicholas has tried hundreds of cases, including 17 jury trials, in both state and federal courts. He has taken and defended hundreds of depositions and participated in countless administrative and local government hearings. Nicholas has authored numerous successful briefs to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, having lower courts reversed on issues of expert admissibility and defending winning insurance coverage arguments. He has briefed and argued matters before the 7th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals and has assisted with matters that have gone before the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He has obtained six-figure jury verdicts in subrogation matters and has assisted in seven-figure settlements in product liability cases.  He continues to routinely garner favorable outcomes and results for his clients, going as far as required to achieve success.

Fun Fact

In his free time, Nicholas likes to be in nature in most of its various forms. He is affiliated with an organization that sponsors 22 hospitals across the nation, providing free medical care to children who need specialty healthcare
