Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer, S.C. (“MWL”) is pleased to announce that Zahra Aziz has joined our insurance litigation team as a senior associate attorney in our California branch office. Zahra’s litigation experience adds to a wealth of experience at MWL’s Santa Ana office, which is already teeming with talent and expertise. Zahra’s practice focuses on insurance litigation, especially nationwide insurance subrogation involving workers’ compensation, automobile, health insurance and ERISA, property and casualty, premises liability, insurance coverage, and civil litigation.
Zahra received her undergraduate degree from UCLA, magna cum laude, and boasts a law degree from the University of California – Davis School of Law where she graduated with academic honors and served as an editor of the Law Review. She was formerly a litigating attorney at the Southern California law firm Gokal Law Group, which specializes in personal injury, employment law, and trust litigation, and the Santa Ana personal injury firm of DiMarco, Araujo, Montevideo, APLC. Zahra says her aggressive litigation style is tempered by the truism that compromise is often the most cost-effective way toward a prompt resolution. She now puts her experience and the expertise of MWL to work in helping clients maximize their subrogation recoveries, especially in the busy subrogation state of California. Zahra is fluent in Farsi and conversational in Spanish.
Zahra was born in Afghanistan. She and her family immigrated to West Germany after the 1979 Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan and eventually settled in the San Francisco Bay area, where Zahra was raised. Zahra has a keen interest in linguistics because she had to learn several languages in her formative years. Zahra is also an avid runner and she runs every morning, rain or shine! Luckily, she resides in sunny Southern California. She spends her spare time with her family, which consists of her husband Adrian, her daughter Abby, and the family dog Ambrose (terrier-pit bull mix, rescued from a local shelter). Her interests include reading (mostly non-fiction about the American Civil War), playing board games with her ridiculously competitive family, and watching UCLA sports. GO BRUINS!!!
We look forward to utilizing Zahra’s extensive experience handling subrogation litigation across the state of California. On behalf of the partners, associates, legal assistants, and support staff here at MWL, we would like to welcome Zahra to our firm. We would also invite our clients and friends to introduce themselves to Zahra, who can be reached at zaziz@mwl-law.com.
