Biography
Mark E. Opalisky is an experienced subrogation attorney and a member of Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer, S.C.’s national subrogation team. With nearly four decades of experience in recovery litigation, Mark focuses his practice on complex subrogation matters, with a particular emphasis on maritime and admiralty claims.
Mark represents insurers and self-insured entities in high-exposure recovery actions involving maritime losses, admiralty law, and Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act claims. His practice also spans a wide range of property and casualty subrogation matters, including losses arising from product and construction defects, cyber theft, and catastrophic events. He is deeply involved at every stage of the recovery process, from early investigation and cause-and-origin analysis through litigation strategy, negotiation, and resolution.
Throughout his career, Mark has handled hundreds of subrogation claims, directed multi-state litigation, and developed strategic recovery programs for carriers and in-house legal teams. He is known for his aggressive yet practical approach to recovery, his responsiveness to clients, and his ability to identify and pursue viable avenues for reimbursement in complex loss scenarios.
Mark earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third and Fourth Circuits. He holds an AV Preeminent® peer review rating and a perfect 5.0/5.0 peer review score, reflecting the highest levels of professional excellence and ethical standards.
Mark practices out of our New Jersey office, one of the firm’s busiest jurisdictions, and plays a key role in supporting MWL’s expanding maritime and Gulf-region subrogation practice.
