Kidde has recalled two styles of fire extinguishers, including 142 different models of fire extinguishers that were manufactured as far back as 1973. The fire extinguishers can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency. In addition, the nozzle can detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard.
Representative models of the two fire extinguishers, in how to find the model number and date code to see if the unit is subject to recall, can be found below.
Over 40 million units were sold in the United States and Canada at various online and big-box retailers. Consumers should contact Kidde for a free replacement fire extinguisher.
