Matthiesen, Wickert & Lehrer, S.C., is a growing national subrogation and litigation firm with offices in Hartford, WI; New Orleans, LA; Santa Ana, CA; Austin, TX; Jacksonville, FL; and Boston, MA. We seek a junior associate with 1-3 years of experience to join our team in Hartford, WI. Attorneys at our firm are given discretion to work remotely as appropriate to manage their caseload. The two partners to whom you would report work in-office most days. Our new hire would be expected to work primarily in-office for their first few months to accommodate in-person training, meetings, and shadowing of those partners and other staff.

The desired candidate must have a track record of success, ability to handle a range of cases from inception to summary judgment and/or trial. The ideal candidate will be able to generally operate independently following initial training in pre-suit negotiations, including with adverse insurance carriers in property damage or personal injury matters, or billing disputes with medical providers. Such a candidate would also have demonstrable experience with motion practice, discovery, fact depositions, and expert discovery, such that they could contribute meaningfully to matters in active litigation in both state and federal courts around the country. Attorneys familiar with handling fire loss litigation, product liability defense, health insurance and/or subrogation work are preferred. Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent legal research and writing abilities. The firm values candidates with judicial clerk experience, who excelled in law school, or who have Law Review experience.

Attorneys are provided opportunities to engage in challenging, substantive work, and have substantial control over their own caseload. All attorneys at our firm have direct client contact.

Junior associates are expected to be able to work independently on some matters and operate as an effective team member with other attorneys and support staff on others. The candidate will have occasional travel and opportunities to author articles, speak at conferences or on educational webinars, and visit clients.

The firm actively supports its attorneys with in-house continuing education, marketing, and client development. Salary range is between $75,000-$100,000 and based on relevant skills and experience. The firm also offers a benefit package including an annual associate bonus pool, a monthly stipend for your cell phone bill, life, health, dental, and a 401(k) plan with employer contribution.
