Gary Wickert was recently contacted by Beth Greenfield, a Yahoo News reporter for Yahoo Shine, regarding a new Chicago Transit Authority initiative to hold parents responsible for subway graffiti at the hands of their minor children. Yahoo ran across a chart depicting the parental responsibility laws for all 50 states contained on the Matthiesen, Wickert, & Lehrer, S.C. website (found HERE) and sought comment from Gary regarding the new CTA effort in light of Illinois law. The article can be found HERE. While the CTA is self-insured and graffiti cleanup is done at the expense of Illinois taxpayers, the new Chicago initiative should encourage private insurers to seek out similar subrogation opportunities across the country.
